[Download-List] [DOWNLOAD] Any format that Excel will open without prompting ?

Yep, realized that after I posted. But I wasn't aware that the default could be changed - thanks!

Julie, this is a function of Windows.

Based on the suffix of the file, Windows will always open the default app (if any) for that type of suffix.

The default can be changed on the recipient's PC by setting Excel as the default program for text files (.txt). Then clicking on the file will automatically open Excel.

If you go to a formerly-saved ".txt" file, then right-click. Select "open with", and then choose the default program.

Of course, if you're sending to different folk all the time, this wouldn't do the trick.

Regards,
Susan

Finally had a chance to revisit this and realized I should have had coffee a little earlier this morning. The solution is fine but my problem is a bit different, I think.

When I create a .csv file with Download and email it to a user, s/he can double-click on the (Outlook) attachment and the file opens in Excel. It doesn't ask any questions, and while the format may not be all that is desired, it works, it's readable, and it can be sorted and filtered.

When I create a tab-delimited text file and email it, the user has to save it, then open Excel, then open it from within Excel. It's not exactly a huge burden, but the save/open/import routine is a bit clumsy. I'd like to make it easier -I'd like them to be able to double-click on the attachment and open it, as they would a .csv.

That's the problem I'm really trying to solve.

Try HTML. I have used that before and it works great.

Does Cedarville Download produce any kind of output that can be opened in Excel without any prompting from Excel?

CSV is fine, but I'd rather not have to answer prompts to get the file to open.
